PREAMBLE
WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE “PACIFIC ISLANDERS ASSOCIATION OF THE NORTHWEST”
IN THE U.S.A., WHO ARE RESIDING IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, WITH OUR FULL
AND MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING AND CONSENT, WITH AND BY THE SPIRIT OF LOVE AND
BROTHERHOOD, HEREBY JOIN TOGETHER AND DECLARE OUR FELLOWSHIP AND CALL TO THE
COMMUNION OF THE COVENANT OF “PACIFIC ISLANDERS ASSOCIATION OF THE
NORTHWEST”.
WITH THIS ASSOCIATION, WE AFFIRM OUR COMMON AND MUTUAL WISH TO HELP ONE
ANOTHER IN THOUGHTS, IN DEEDS, AND IN ACTIONS TO PRESERVE AND PERPETUATE OUR
HOMELAND HERITAGE BESTOWED UPON US BY GOD, OUR TRADITIONAL DEITY, THROUGH
THE BENEVOLENT SPIRITS OF OUR ANCESTORS, CLANS, OUR CHIEFS, OUR ELDERS, OUR
FAMILIES, AND OUR PARENTS.
WE PLEDGE OUR COMMON SUPPORT AND OUR HONOR TO HAVE FAITH IN EACH OTHER, AND
TO LIVE UP TO THAT HONOR AS MEMBERS OF THIS ASSOCIATION WHO HAVE HUMILITY IN
PRIDE, AND PRIDE IN HUMILITY.
WE, THEREFORE, CALL ON OUR LORD, DEITY, AND ANCESTORS TO BLESS, GUIDE AND
WATCH OVER OUR MEMBERSHIP, AND WE FURTHER ASK THEM TO EMBRACE US ALL, AND TO
PERPETUATE US IN PEACE, HARMONY AND IN UNITY WITH ONE ANOTHER.
OUR MOTTO AND CODE OF ARM IS “ONE FOR ALL, ALL FOR ONE, WITH MALICE TOWARD
NONE”.
ARTICLE I. Name and Purpose
- Section 1. The name and purpose of this Association are contained in
the “Preamble”.
- Section 2. The principal meeting place for this Association will be
designated by the majority of the membership.
- Section 3. This Association may hold emergency meeting at designated
place as requested and expressed by its elected officers and/or members
for emergency purpose.
ARTICLE II. Membership
- Section 1. Any person who is of a Pacific Islands ancestry or spouse
or child of this ancestry who has reached the age of 18 years, rational,
and has explicitly requested or expressed a desire to become a member of
this Association is eligible for membership.
- Section 2. A person of non-Pacific Island ancestry may become an
honorary member through a verbal or a written request, and is admitted by
the officers and a majority consensus of the members of the Association.
ARTICLE III. Meetings
- Section 1. There shall be a monthly meeting to be held at the same
time and place as musing, or as designated by the membership.
- Section 2. The official time to open the meeting is 6:00 PM, or as
designated by the membership. Any member has a right to a maximum of 15
minutes tardiness without being fined.
- Section 3. A member can be excused from attending the meeting for the
following: a. Call of duty
- b. Emergency
- c. Any reason of valid and urgent nature
ARTICLE IV. Membership Dues
- Section 1. Beginning January 26, 2002, and continue until amended,
each member of this Association shall pay a monthly dues in the amount of
$5.00.
- Section 2. Dues are to be collected during each meeting.
- Section 3. A member can render payment in incremental amount totaling
the required monthly amount at collection time.
- Section 4. Any member can pay unlimited monthly dues in advance.
ARTICLE V. Officers
- Section 1. The officers of this Association shall be composed of the
following: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
- Section 2. All the Officers shall be elected by a majority vote of the
general membership present at the meeting and will have a term of one
year. The term will begin in January of each year and end in December of
that year.
- Section 3. A person shall not serve more than two consecutive terms.
- Section 4. Qualifications to hold an official position shall include
the following:
- a. A candidate shall have been a member of the Association for at
least one year
- b. Shall be in good standing
- c. Candidacy shall be regardless to gender and possess leadership
ability
- d. Shall respect and be respected by the membership
- Section 5. An honorary member can hold office as elected officer.
ARTICLE VI. Duties and Responsibilities
- Section 1. The President shall preside at all meetings of this
Association. He/She shall sign all association’s official documents,
notes, enforce the By Laws, and shall guide this Association, protects it,
and perpetuates its objectives.
- Section 2. The Vice-President will fulfill the duties and
responsibilities of the President in his/her absence.
- Section 3. The Treasurer, as subjected to limitations and control of
the President, Secretary, and the general membership, shall have custody
of all funds, securities, valuable papers and other assets of this
Association. He/She must prepare and submit a monthly bank statement of
the Association’s account to all regular meetings. The financial statement
shall include all expenses, liabilities, interests or loss and other
miscellaneous financial commitments. The treasurer must affix his/her
signature at all time for all approved financial transactions. The
Treasurer and President must both sign for transactions $100.00 and over.
- Section 4. The Secretary is the record keeper of this Association.
He/She shall prepare and maintain minutes of all meetings, and give an
oral summary of previous meetings or prepare proposed agenda for
subsequent meeting. Additional responsibilities as dictated by the
membership.
ARTICLE VII. FUNDS
- Section 1. The funds of this Association shall be used for the benefit
of its members or causes as expressed through a resolution by the officers
and majority of the membership.
- Section 2. The funds shall be deposited in the bank in the name of the
association.
ARTICLE VIII. EXPULSION
- Section 1. Any member of this Association, whether islander or honorary,
may be expelled from the membership of this Association for a valid and
justifiable cause. Expulsion of a member requires two-thirds (2/3) votes of
the general membership in attendance at the meeting. Voluntary membership
termination can take effect upon one’s verbal or written request.
ARTICLE IX. AMENDMENTS
- Section 1. This By-Law can only be amended through resolution approved
by the majority of members present at the meeting.
